Early in my career, I began hearing the same three questions from clients again and again:
I didn't believe these frustrations had to be part of the painting experience. So I set out to find a better way.
That journey became the foundation of Expressions Painting.
In 2002, I learned one of the most valuable lessons of my life.
A mistake on a project ended up costing my company more than $50,000.
At the time, it was painful.
But that experience forced me to ask an important question:
How do I make sure this never happens again?
The answer was KNOWLEDGE.
I realized that becoming a better painter wasn’t just about gaining more years of experience.
It was about continuously learning.
It was about understanding products, techniques, preparation, problem-solving, and the science behind the trade.
That commitment eventually led me to earn my Red Seal certification as a Painter & Decorator in 2008.
But the most valuable thing I gained was not just a certification.
It was a mindset.
A commitment to always keep learning.
Because the more you know, the more confident you become.
And when you combine knowledge with experience, you can give your clients something even more valuable:
Confidence that the job is in good hands.
Before starting Expressions Painting, I built a larger painting company that employed 15 to 18 painters.
Although the company was successful, managing multiple types of projects created challenges.
Weather affected exterior work.
Construction delays affected the schedules.
Keeping painters working meant constantly adjusting plans.
I learned that even with great organization, trying to do everything made it difficult to create the predictable experience my clients deserved.
In 2010, I created Expressions Painting with a different vision — SPECIALIZE.
By focusing exclusively on interior repaint projects, we could create a better experience.
A more organized process.
Clearer communication.
More predictable timelines.
Specialization allowed us to remove one of the biggest frustrations clients experience when hiring painters.
Uncertainty.
A painter can create a flawless finish, but if the client doesn’t love the colors, it’s not going to matter.
That realization changed everything.
I began studying color more deeply and recognized that color selection was not simply about choosing a favorite shade.
It was about understanding how colors interact with light, finishes, furniture, and the unique characteristics of each home.
In 2012, I decided to take personal responsibility for color consultations.
It was a risk.
Because I was now personally invested in the color decisions, I began educating my clients and doing live demonstrations in their homes so they could truly know how each color would react in their space.
That decision transformed the experience.
By teaching my clients what to expect, demonstrating colors in different lighting situations, and explaining concepts like color illusion, we removed the fear of making an expensive mistake.
Color consulting became more than a service. It became an essential part of the Expressions Painting experience.
Expressions Painting is a small Specialized Painting Company here is Moncton, NB (Canada) who’s now helping people Leverage the Transformative Power of Color – on a LARGE SCALE.
“EDUCATION is the key!’ There are no mandatory schools for Painters to attend before entering the industry which means a lot of important Knowledge is lacking."
That’s why Expressions Painting now has an EDUCATION Division called EPU (Expressions Painting University).
EPU is an online school for Painters, Contractors & Consultants with registered students in more than 20 Different Countries.
Through EPU, Remi now trains, supports & coaches other Painters, Contractors & Consultants with their respective careers and helps them work TOGETHER so that they can in turn ALSO help their clients Leverage the Transformative Power of Color.
Remi also produces Tips & Tricks Videos, which have gathered over 13 million views on YouTube alone.
