Choosing the right paint color for your home can feel overwhelming. Many homeowners in Moncton, Riverview, and Dieppe run into the same problem—you pick a color expecting one result, only to see something completely different once it’s on the wall.
That “perfect gray” suddenly looks blue, green, or even purple.
Hi, I’m Remi Boudreau, Licensed Painter, Color Consultant, and owner of Expressions Painting. In this guide, I’m going to walk you through the exact 3-step process we use with our clients to make sure their vision becomes reality.
The first step in choosing the right paint color is using a fan deck.
A fan deck allows you to see multiple shades of a color side by side. This is incredibly important because undertones are almost impossible to detect when looking at a single swatch.
For example:
When you compare them together, the differences become obvious.
Once you’ve selected a general color, the next step is to look at larger swatches of that same color.
Now you need to decide how light or dark you want that color to be.
Avoid placing swatches directly on walls that will be repainted.
Instead:
Lighting is one of the biggest factors in how a paint color will appear.
The same color can look completely different depending on natural sunlight, warm lighting, or cool lighting.
What we recommend:
A simple trick: hold the swatch at a 45-degree angle and move it from near a window into the room. For a live demonstration of this, check out the video below.
Even the best paint job won’t matter if you don’t love the colors. That’s why, every project includes a free Color Consultation.
